WOULD YOU LIKE SPECIFIC TRAINING FOR YOUR AGENCY?
See below for the types of training we offer. For agency training, we charge a flat fee plus actual expenses.
Corrections In-Service Training (Nationwide)
- We can customize the length and content of our corrections training to meet your needs. Most commonly, we provide agencies with a full day training, and for larger agencies we can provide the same training on different days to allow your entire staff to attend.
- We can focus the training on line staff or supervisors, or do a general training suitable for all staff.
- We offer a wide variety of classes about subjects that impact corrections such as: use of force, inmate searches, grievances, Prison Litigation Reform Act, religious rights of inmates, and more.
- We cover recent cases from the Circuit Courts of Appeals and the US Supreme Court.
Patrol In-Service Training (Oregon only)
- We can customize the length and content of our patrol training to meet your needs. Most commonly, we provide agencies with a four-hour or full-day training, and for larger agencies we can provide the same training on different days to allow your entire staff to attend.
- We can focus the training on line staff or supervisors, or do a general training suitable for all staff.
- We cover Oregon statutes as well as recent cases from the Oregon Court of Appeals, the Oregon Supreme Court, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court.
Sample Presentations
Sex, Power, and Sexual Misconduct
- Suitable for patrol, corrections and all agency staff.
- Offered as a two-hour session.
- Sessions work best if all participants are of similar rank.
- The focus of the seminar is to explore the concepts of power, fatigue, and social norms in the agency and how these impact staff behavior and may lead to sexual misconduct. Case-based discussions and peer-reviewed research are combined into a thought-provoking and eye-opening presentation.
Americans with Disabilities Act
- We have both a patrol and corrections specific version of this presentation.
- This is a one-hour or two-hour class, and it will discuss what qualifies as a disability, what is a major life activity as well as reasonable accommodations.
- We will discuss real-life scenarios and lessons learned from ADA litigation.
Use of Force Training
- This presentation can be tailored to corrections, patrol, or both.
- We review recent Oregon statutes on force, Oregon Court of Appeal and Oregon Supreme Court cases, as well as cases from the 9th Circuit and US Supreme Court to provide a deeper understanding of trends and pitfalls in use of force.
- This presentation shares lessons learned from years of defending patrol and corrections officers in use of force and deadly force lawsuits.
